What We Found
High-End Residential Gutter Replacement on a Challenging Hillside Home
Some homes require precision. Others demand creativity, experience, and problem-solving at every stage of the installation. Our project on Palisades Court in Lake Oswego was one of those rare residential gutter replacements where no part of the job was routine.

This luxury hillside home sits more than three stories tall at the rear, with limited access, extremely steep rooflines, and an architectural concrete tile roof that presented a unique challenge rarely encountered on standard gutter installations. Every aspect of the project required careful planning, specialized installation techniques, and meticulous craftsmanship to ensure the finished system looked as though it had always belonged on the home.

The Challenge
A Beautiful Home with a Difficult Roof System
The existing gutter system consisted of aging 5-inch gutters that had reached the end of their service life. While replacing them would normally be straightforward, the roof itself introduced a level of complexity that significantly changed the installation process.

The home featured a high-end concrete tile roof with decorative hip caps that extended well into the gutter profile. Rather than ending neatly above the gutter line, these large bell-shaped concrete roof components projected downward into the area where traditional gutter guards are typically installed.

From an installation standpoint, there is no off-the-shelf solution for this type of roof. Every transition required individual attention.
Because the homeowners also wanted a premium gutter protection system, every section of gutter guard had to be custom fit around these architectural roof details while maintaining both appearance and functionality.

One of the defining features of this project was the installation of a complete Alu-Rex T-Rex gutter guard system.

The T-Rex system is one of the most durable gutter guard systems available, providing continuous support to the front edge of the gutter while helping prevent leaves and debris from entering the system.
On most homes, installation is relatively straightforward. On this home, however, each roof hip presented a custom fabrication challenge. Every gutter guard section had to be individually measured, carefully notched, and precision-cut around the oversized concrete roof hip terminations. The goal was to preserve the clean appearance of the roofline while ensuring that every piece of gutter protection fit securely without compromising water flow or long-term performance.
These details are rarely noticed once the project is complete—but they are often what separates an average installation from exceptional craftsmanship.
Returning to Complete the System.
Access That Tested Every Installer
Working on large homes often means working at height, but this property elevated that challenge considerably. The rear elevation extended more than three stories, with extremely limited access for ladders and equipment. The surrounding landscape offered very few locations where ladders could be safely positioned, requiring our crew to carefully plan every stage of the installation before work even began.
The roof itself was exceptionally steep—well beyond what would be considered comfortably walkable for a gutter installation. Rather than relying on speed, this project demanded careful movement, specialized safety practices, and constant communication between crew members.
Every section of gutter had to be installed with precision while working in conditions that left very little room for error, and it is projects like this highlight why experience matters.

The larger 6K seamless gutters provide substantially greater water-carrying capacity than the original 5-inch system, helping manage the heavy rainfall common throughout the Portland and Lake Oswego areas.
Oversized 3x4 downspouts further improve drainage efficiency by allowing larger volumes of water to move away from the roof more quickly during intense storms.

To further protect the underground drainage system, cleanouts were installed on every downspout, allowing future maintenance to be performed quickly and efficiently without dismantling the drainage system.
